Jordan Economic Development and Trading Company (COMEDAT) is Jordan’s largest phosphate contractor. The company was initially founded by Anton Dababneh as a privately owned organization known as AD Enterprise in 1969 to mine phosphate on behalf of the Jordan phosphate Mining Company (JPMC). AD enterprises quickly excelled and earned an excellent reputation in the mining sphere. In 1980, AD enterprises formed a joint venture with a leading UK company, Costain Mining – the joint venture erected the largest walking dragline in the area capable of excavating 6,000,000 Bank Cubic Meter per year and is still currently operating at El Hassa Mine.
In January 1996, AD enterprises completely acquired one of its largest competitors known as COMEDAT and continues to operate under that name ever since. In August of 1997, the Dababneh family with its local mining expertise joined forces with Kier Group with its international mining experience and COMEDAT became jointly owned, in equal partnership, by Kier Group and Dababneh family. The Kier Group, is a UK based, company whose activities span civil engineering, construction and opencast mining
In 2006, with over ten years of experience with international partners, the Dababneh family bought Kier Group out and is currently 100% family owned.
In 2008, Comedat entered into a partnership with Jordan Phosphate Mines Company (JPMC) and formed Manajim for Mining Development in order to perform all mining operations in Es-shadyia Mine.
